We are in holiday mode over here at the cozy cottage and the holiday season is extra special this year because it’s the first with baby August! Have you been keeping up with all the holiday content I’ve shared recently? Here’s the 2019 gift guide, and here are a dozen ideas on how to give back this holiday season. I shared a few creative solutions for some holiday decorating dilemmas here and now I’m sharing how we decorate for the holidays at the cozy cottage!

When we moved into the house from an apartment almost five years ago, we basically started from scratch with the holiday decorations. We bought new stockings and some other holiday decor, as well as took all of my family’s old Christmas decorations to spritz up the place. We have a few Christmas decorating traditions: we collect ornaments from places where we travel, we have been buying our trees every year since we moved here from a local rotary club since all proceeds go to local charities, and we drink egg nog and play Christmas records while we decorate. You can read more on that here.

We didn’t change much this year, but with an infant crawling around and putting everything in his mouth, we went smaller with the tree so it takes up less space, and were mindful of how many decorations we used and where we put them. Oh, and we bought August his own stocking to match the ones we bought for our first Christmas here!
