Spring Cleaning…and My Organization Embarrassment

It’s March and while that is still very much winter here and many parts of the US, it’s the month where spring officially begins and spring cleaning fever starts. Of course, spring cleaning isn’t just about cleaning, it’s also about organizing. And, on that note, I have something kind of embarrassing to share.

I like to think of myself as a very organized and neat person. I love going through all my things, whether it’s old paperwork, my clothes, containers of stuff I have organized before, and donating, recycling and throwing out whatever I don’t need or like anymore. Whatever doesn’t have a place or I don’t need or use anymore, goes out the door!

Except that “out the door” lately has meant this:

Anything that can’t immediately get thrown away or easily donated goes right out the door and into our garage. I can’t even tell you how much anxiety seeing the garage like this gives me. There’s outdoor furniture in here so moving them outdoors will give us some space back, but that doesn’t clean out the garage that much. There’s just so much STUFF and I HATE stuff!

I’ve written about what we’ve done to the garage before when we turned it into a usable hangout space. Now it’s just awful. I didn’t realize that there was a bag of old leaves rotting away in there until I took these photos this weekend. Ugh.

So anyway, my major spring cleaning task, as long as the weather isn’t freezing, is to organize and clean out this garage bit by bit, weekend by weekend. This looks like a terrifyingly annoying and time-consuming task, but little by little, I hope to chip away at it so it doesn’t give me so much anxiety.

And maybe by the summer, I’ll take it from looking like this:

to a lot closer to this:

Do you have any spring cleaning or organizing plans? What steps are you planning to take to tackle them? Happy cleaning!
