2021 Home and Food Trends

The experts across interior design and food have spoken and shared their predictions for what will be trending in their industries for this year. The biggest trends I’m interested in across the board are more sustainability, more racial and ethnic diversity and representation of heritage, and better, higher quality living at home.
With how much time we’re spending at home and likely will continue to be for a lot of this year, it’s no wonder so many of us are looking to upgrade our spaces at every level, including with our bedding. Luxurious bedding will be on the rise this year, according to this story in Hunker.
Architectural Digest says bright wall colors will become popular as well as contemporary and artisanal furniture. I’m digging that trend because I think this will allow for a lot more creativity in the near future in mass-produced furniture. We’re so used to seeing the same shapes and silhouettes but seeing what artists do with furniture will be inspiring.
I’m interested to see the lasting impact that video conference calls and the need for more private spaces at home may have in design and renovations through the end of the year, especially as 2022 should see more and more people going back to some version of their regular living. See more on those trends in this Mansion Global story.
You know I’m all about making bread and pasta at home, something I, along with many many many others, picked up over the pandemic. Glad to see that pasta making will continue its upswing this year. But best news ever – since you know how much I love cocktails – is that premium alcohol may start costing less! Also, virtual cooking classes as a trend sounds great since there are just only so many creative ways to pass the time at home day in and day out. Delish has more on those food trends.
And, if you’re a reader of his blog, then you know how much I value heritage cooking (visit the Kreyol Kitchen). Food & Wine predicts more interest in culturally Black cuisine and heritage cooking.
