Kitchen Renovation: Final Costs and Source List Breakdown
Our kitchen renovation is done! The entire renovation started August 16, and the last final touch was November 6 so, we have a completely new kitchen and a new front door (more on that later) in just under three months. With the last checks written and bills paid, I am breaking down the kitchen final costs and sharing all the sources and materials.
To catch up on all things kitchen renovation, see here. And now let’s get down to the details!
The total cost of the kitchen renovation was $59,702. When we started out and had met with numerous contractors and got their feedback and estimates, we expected to spend $50,000 – $55,000 on the total renovation, but anticipated it could go up to $60,000 knowing that we weren’t taking budget options at every turn. We were very happy to see when all the money was spent and math was done that we came in right under the anticipated budget.
Here’s how the money was spent:
Item | Cost |
---|---|
Architect | 1,687.50 |
Contractors (this is all labor, plus a few materials like drywall, paint, window, canned lighting, trim, vent, undercabinet lighting) | 30,450 |
Cabinets | 15,468.09 |
Countertop | 5,901.70 |
Floor tile | 463.95 |
Wall tile | 197.52 |
Dishwasher | 852.95 |
Gas range | 2,848.95 |
Sink | 244.17 |
Faucet | 266.51 |
Upper cabinet pulls | 922.50 |
Lower cabinet pulls | 398.24 |
Total cost | 59,702.08 |
I am sharing financials because I think having an understanding of what a renovation like this costs – total gut and almost all new materials (we already had the refrigerator) – is helpful, especially considering the small size of our space. So now that you know, what are your thoughts? Are you surprised at how much we spent?
As you can see, the largest chunk went toward labor, which is the norm in residential renovations. If we had gone a more budget route in other areas, we likely could have brought the total cost to around $50,000. We could have saved with the cabinets, countertop, oven, dishwasher and cabinet pulls, but we didn’t want to! So here’s what we purchased:
- MasterBrand Cabinets in the Decora line, with the Della door front, in Cascades SW 7623 (full disclosure, I work in public relations and both Masterbrand Cabinets and Sherwin-Williams are clients of my agency)
- Wall, ceiling and trim paint color is Snowbound SW 7004
- Macaubas Fantasy Quartzite countertop
- Floor is opal white 11×13 hexagon porcelain tile by Adessi and backsplash is bright white ice polished ceramic 2×8 tile by Festival, both purchased at Floor & Decor
- Dishwasher is ZLine 18-inch, panel-ready from Build.com
- Oven range is Cafe 30-inch smart slide-in front control with convection oven
- Sink is Ruvati from Overstock
- Faucet is Kraus Bolden in Champagne Bronze
- Lower cabinets have brass and leather drawer pulls in Natural from Hooked Pull Me Knob on Etsy and the upper cabinets have knobs in two different sizes from the Facet series from Nest Studio.
We still would like to add copper flashing or detailing to the little ledge above the stove, replace our countertop appliances for better looking objects, and we’re on the hunt for a table and chairs that better fit the space and design.
But the kitchen is done and we absolutely love it! I hope you have found the details I have shared on this journey to be informative and please let me know if there is any other information that would be helpful to know as you compare or plan renovations or are dreaming of your own one day.
