New Front Door at The Cozy Cottage
Surprise! We got a new front door at the cozy cottage! Boosting our curb appeal and having fun with the decorative aspects of our front door are things we’ve been doing since we moved in. With contractors here working on other areas of our first floor – hello, kitchen renovation! – we thought it was a good time to make the ultimate change to our front door.
Our house had a basic paneled front door with two windows when we moved in that I later painted (see here) and also designed and applied wallpaper (see here). We wanted to keep the bright and happy feel, while letting in more light and continuing to add a modern touch to this old home. We really like the back door we got for our beautility room renovation, so we got the same door for the front.
Of course, with all things in this old house, nothing is simple. Standard front doors come in 36×80 and 36×84 sizes. Ours was, of course, 36×82. Our contractors recommended, instead of ordering a custom-sized door, to order the 36×80 size and they would build around it to make it fit the larger opening, so that’s what we did.
We wanted to keep the general coral color of our front door but went with something a little lighter and brighter, Ravishing Coral SW 6612. (Full disclosure, I work in public relations and Sherwin-Williams is a client of my agency.) We ordered this Baldwin Santa Cruz cylinder handleset from Build.com in satin nickel.
For privacy, we ordered a rolling shade from The Shade Store designed by Sheila Bridges, an interior designer who created the Harlem Toile De Jouy print. We ordered the blackout version in the multi-white colorway. To learn more about the print and why it’s so special, read this story in Business of Home.
The total cost of the front door, these materials and labor came to $2,114.88.
To add a little seasonal decor, I picked up a faux pampas grass wreath from Amazon.
We are so happy that we were able to add this little project to our kitchen renovation and we love the way it turned out!
