The Cozy Cottage

2022 Project List at The Cozy Cottage

When I put together the project list for The Cozy Cottage last year, I had the kitchen renovation on the wish list (as well as swapping out our front door) and said we weren’t in a position to renovate but we could at least start talking to contractors. Well, that certainly changed! Now I’m looking at the 2022 project list thinking, what might we get up to this year?

The biggest thing we need to do this year is save money! The cost of a kitchen renovation is no joke (see ours here) and before we do anything else costly or incur anything more urgent (like replacing our roof, see here), we need to save lots and lots more money.

In the meantime, I’m hoping to make updates to all the rooms upstairs.

Home Office

The one change I made in here last year was hiring an electrician to swap out the overhead light. Other than that, the 2022 project list looks much like last year’s:

  1. Finally finally finally, get a better shelving system to better accommodate all of our books.
  2. Replace the sleeper sofa with something more comfortable.
  3. Get a new desk (or build one??!!).
  4. Replace rug and window treatments, which originally were a DIY but I can do better this time.

If I only get one of these done this year, I’d love for it to be the shelving, since I’ve been talking about that forever, or replacing the sleeper sofa. Also, if you need home office inspiration, check out this post.

Main Bedroom

I actually got stuff done in here last year! We hired an electrician to swap out the overhead light, I built a headboard and we replaced our bed, and I swapped out the Roman shades. This year, I hope to:

  1. Finally install closet curtains instead of doors (I’ve been talking about some kind of closet door situation for a long time, see here).
  2. Get a rug that better fits the space.
  3. And maybe maybe maybe paint it a darker, moodier blue.

If I get one thing done in here this year, I hope it’s getting a new rug.

Gus’ Room

Our little baby is turning 3 and he and his books are outgrowing his room! So we’re making this less of his nursery and more of his big boy’s room. We already changed the rug in here last year, and here’s what else will be changing:

  1. My first DIY project of the year will be a twin bed and upholstered headboard that I’m making for him.
  2. Replace his bookshelf with something that can last throughout his childhood.
  3. Fix a broken window.
  4. More organization of his closet and drawers and getting rid of all baby stuff (like no more diapers!).

Hiring Out

We’ll be looking into home renovation contractors for a couple of projects where we’ll need to hire out.

  1. We need to replace broken windows (one in Gus’s room and one in a living room).
  2. We really need to replace our front porch since it’s kind of falling apart. This has been on the project list for a couple of years but as it’s still standing and we decided to take on the kitchen last year, this got pushed further down the priority list, but I really hope we get to it this year. It would just look so good with our new front door.

And that’s it for this year’s project list! We already have a couple of things under way (see here for a TV room moodboard and here for a playroom moodboard). Wish me luck in getting this all done!
