Our New Kitchen Chairs + Decorating with Orange
We got new kitchen chairs and they’re orange! Orange is a bright, bold and happy color, and I love decorating with it. But I get that it’s not for everyone and may come off as a bit hard to decorate with, so here are some expert tips as well as photos to get your (orange) juices flowing.
When we renovated our kitchen (see more on that here), we knew we would update the chairs and table but weren’t in a rush. With a 3-year-old, it becomes more apparent every day just how messy they can be. I saw these plastic Jago dining chairs on All Modern in happy colors and a mid-century modern-like design, and grabbed them up during a sale.
The orange complements our emerald green cabinets and lends a joyful pop of color, as you can see in the top photo. Their material makes them easy to clean, and they’re comfortable. They are a happy minor update to our kitchen.
But I get it, orange isn’t for everyone. If your interest is piqued, check out this story for a few expert tips:
- If you’re going for subtle, try using the shade as an accent color in furniture, decor, window treatments, textiles and art to punctuate your existing design scheme.
- Use a brighter shade of orange to punch up everyday and lively spaces, like a kitchen.
- Richer and deeper shades (think fall colors) allow orange to create a cozy feel to living rooms and other comfy hangout spaces, like terracotta and rust.
And for some inspiration, check out these beautiful spaces that incorporate orange from a little piece of decor to much more full throttle.
