Shopping Guide 2023: Supporting Makers and Creators of Color

Ever wanted a source of inspiration for when you’re shopping for yourself or buying gifts for others throughout the year? To support this spending habit, I’ve pulled together a shopping guide for the year with a special focus – supporting makers, creators and entrepreneurs of color. The below inspiration boards and sources can be helpful as you’re looking for clothing, accessories, food and dining items for adults and kids, as well as home goods, decor and other goodies. I even have a few of these and love them!

Clothing for Adults

I am absolutely loving the Oaxacan Rainbow Top, a sustainably made and upcycled shirt by 4KINSHIP, and it’s on my must-buy list for this year. Additional sources for items seen here are Mahogany Mommies, Grey State, and Philadelphia Print Works.

Accessories for Adults

Thanks to my husband for gifting me the beautiful Cowrie lariat necklace by Omi Woods, pictured here. Other sources for products seen here are Abacaxi, JW Pei, CJW, Kara and Johnny Nelson! jewelry.

Beauty & Skincare

I can testify to the positive results of using Hyper! skincare products since I started using some of their products this year, like the Vitamin C serum pictured here. Additional sources are Flo + Theo, Cheekbone Beauty, Range Beauty and Sunnies Face.

Home Goods and Decor

The new Aphrochic coffee table book is stunning and educational and I highly recommend for anyone looking for a new coffee table book. Other coffee table books pictured here are Brown Bohemians and Dandy Lion. Other home products here are by Dauphinette, Ita, Apihappi and Hey Rooted.

Art

These pieces all look so spectacular. Check them out here: Pop Caribe, Janet Meinke-Lau, Caribbean Craft and NiLu.

Cool Kids Stuff

For Daniel’s first Father’s Day, I gifted him and our then baby The Original and Remix clothing from Kaans Designs. There are so many pieces by all of these companies I’d love to buy! Sources include Yinibini Baby, Brooklyn Lighthouse, Ahimsa, Mini Brook and King + Lola.

Food

All of these products look like they would make great pantry staples: Lomar Farms, Trickster Company, Ioway Bee Farm, and Seka Hills.

Extra Goodies

As a fan of the show Reservation Dogs, I was excited to see these Sharpies by The NTVS that feature words commonly said on the show. Additional products seen here are by Apostrophe Puzzles and Cloth & Paper.

That’s a Wrap

I hope you find this shopping guide helpful as you gift for yourself and others this year! Even if the specific products seen throughout aren’t quite what you’re looking for, I recommend clicking through and seeing what other types of goods each company sells. And, if this inspiration isn’t quite enough, feel free to check out the other shopping ideas and companies featured in a previous shopping guide. If there are any other brands, creators, makers and entrepreneurs you’d like me to mention in a future shopping guide, please let me know in the comments below.
