Cocktail (Unnamed)
My grandmother had one recipe in the book dedicated to alcohol and as we were hosting our first family dinner party this weekend, I thought it a good time to whip up what she simply called “cocktail.”
Here’s her recipe:
- 1 cup lemon juice
- 1/2 cup simple syrup
- 1 cup grenadine syrup
- 1/2 cup martinique (I have no idea what this is.)
- 1 3/4 cup rum, bitters and any type of liqueur that isn’t mint
As you can tell by the list of ingredients, this cocktail is very sweet. Here’s how I translated her recipe:
- 1 shot lemon juice
- 1/2 shot simple syrup
- 1/2 shot grenadine
- 2 shots rum
- 1/2 shot basic bitters
- Shaken with ice, then poured over one large ice cube.
The ingredients blended together well and the cocktail tasted fine, but I hate sweet drinks, so this wasn’t for me. If I make it again, I think I’ll either cut down the grenadine and simple syrup to a splash each or add some seltzer.
