Friday Faves

Friday Faves: What to See, Hear, and Buy this Presidents Day Weekend

Happy Fri-yay and happy three-day Presidents Day weekend! This Friday Faves has something for your eyes and ears and wallet, oh my! Let’s dive in.

To See

Did anyone catch the reveals of the official Obama portraits? The work of Kehinde Wiley and Amy Sherald is no joke!! I have seen Wiley’s work in person at the Brooklyn Museum and each piece is a smorgasbord for your eyes. I have yet to have the pleasure of seeing Sherald’s work in person but clearly I must. These Barack and Michelle portraits are glorious and here’s a Washington Post story about why they matter.

To Spend

Without fail, every Presidents Day weekend comes with all of the mattress sales and deals you could possibly want. Why is this?! Well, we just got a new mattress, it’s a Leesa, one of those comes-in-the-mail-and-unfurls-in-your-bedframe-like-magic mattresses. I’ll be sharing more on that in the coming days, but if you’re interested in trying out a Leesa, check it out here.

To Hear

I listen to a podcast called Chris Loves Julia, brought to you by the interior design blog Chris Loves Julia (they’re really good at coming up with names) and this week’s episode was awesome, especially if you are interested in hearing about how people get to where they are in their careers. They interviewed Jenny Komenda of Juniper Studios/Little Green Notebook, Shea McGee of Studio McGee, Brian Patrick Flynn of HGTV’s Dream Home, and, one of my favorite interior designers, Amber Lewis. Listen to it here.

One More Thing…

Speaking of Amber Lewis, basically any time she reveals a new project from her portfolio, I am going to share it with you because I just love her work so much. You know I have this thing with chairs and round tables and Amber does a damn good chair and always incorporates a round table. Just look at all of this goodness in her latest reveal.

She showed off the home of people who moved from New York to Los Angeles. I just shared the latest in the design process of a couple who moved from LA to NY. What a coincidence! Check it out here if you haven’t already.

Happy Fridaying and Presidents Day weekending!
