Friday Faves

Friday Faves: New DIY Project and Other News

Happy Friday! I’ve got a new DIY project on my mind, new podcast recommendations, new recipes and other new stuff to share with you to kick start your weekend.

I wrote earlier this year about the credenzas that I’m into since I’d like to replace the media storage we have downstairs. I been looking at options like these and then fell in love with this vintage one. Unfortunately, I missed out on buying it, so now I’m thinking I might DIY a media credenza so it fits our exact measurements and needs. I might use this tutorial and add sliding doors from this tutorial.

I have two new favorite design podcasts! The first is called The Moodboard by interior designer Angela Belt. She’s interviewed a lot of great folks so far, like my favorites Genevieve Gorder, Dabito, and Carmen RenĂ© Smith, who recently did a Designer Spotlight Q&A.

Another new podcast I’m loving is Design Time by domino magazine. The first few episodes include interviews with Leanne Ford and design goddess and icon Kelly Wearstler.

For other podcasts I like, check out this round-up here.

I’ve been making ice cream again recently and one cool new flavor I made was ricotta honey. I have a very strong sweet tooth but I really liked the subtlety of this flavor. Here is one recipe to try. I made a basic vanilla ice cream, blended ricotta and honey together, and put that blended mixture into the vanilla ice cream batch as it was churning in the ice cream mixture. I’m thinking about making a basil coconut flavor next.

If you’re interested in what people are searching for these days after months of living in some form of quarantine and an altered near-term future, Pinterest just released this news.

I have taken you on a journey of our garage and how disorganized it was earlier this year (see here) and I said cleaning it out and organizing it would be the one project that I absolutely was going to do. Well, it’s done! Between adding storage, giving away things we no longer need or want, making a trip to the town dump, and of course having all of our furniture outside, this garage is totally organized and finally no longer a source of anxiety.

If you need an uplift, I direct you to U.S. Rep. John Lewis, in the form of his own essay that he wrote just before he died and President Obama’s eulogy at Lewis’ funeral. I will be revisiting these words of wisdom in what I’m sure will be many times of emotional hardship to come.

And with that, I hope you find ways to have a good, healthy and safe weekend.
