Friday Faves: Minor Updates to the Nursery, Our Small Thanksgiving Menu and More
We switched things up just slightly in the nursery (which we won’t be able to call it for much longer, aaaaaaccckkkk!), we’ve pulled together our small Thanksgiving menu for just the three of us, and I’ve got some new products, DIYs and a home tour to show you. Happy Friday and let’s get right into this week’s Friday Faves!
Friends had lent us a rocking chair for when we first brought baby home, which you can see here. But they recently had a baby so we gave them the rocking chair back and thought this would be a good time to invest in a piece of furniture that we was comfortable enough and coordinated with Gus’ room now and still look adult enough to use in any room in the house years later. While we would love to be in a position to own an actual Eames chair, we purchased this knockoff from Wayfair in tan leather, pictured above. It is so, so, so comfortable and so good for cuddles while reading, and will be versatile to be moved around for any room we need it in. In addition, Gus came home from daycare one day with some cool artwork that looks like freeze-dried melted ice cream on paper. I liked it so much, I framed it! And now this corner has a new investment piece of furniture and some original art.
For the past 10 years, starting when we were just a few subway stops away, to last year with a infant, we have spent Thanksgiving every year with friends in Brooklyn. We all know the holidays will look different this year so, for us, that means having a very small Thanksgiving meal at home that we are cooking for the first time. Here’s our menu:
- Buttermilk-Brined Roast Turkey, from chef Samin Nosrat for The New York Times
- Southern baked macaroni and cheese, courtesy of Sweet Tea Thyme
- Mashed sweet potatoes
- Canned cranberry sauce and homemade gravy
- Classic Stouffer’s stuffing
- Sauteed green beans
- Pumpkin pie from Food Network
- Homemade sourdough bread for leftover Thanksgiving sandwiches
Wish us luck as we cook a whole turkey for the first time!
And some other things to round out this Friday Faves:
- Looking for something special for yourself or to gift to someone else? Check out this custom embroidery.
- I’m always inspired by creative DIY projects that don’t cost a lot of money and take the mundane to something so much more beautiful, like these closet doors.
- Interior designer Amber Lewis’ home is so gorgeous – both the interior and exterior – that I can’t stop drooling over it, as seen here.
Happy Friday and have a safe and healthy weekend!
