Friday Faves: Designer Projects I’m Looking Forward to, the Power of Influence, and More

Here I am with the first Friday Faves of the new year, and I’m sharing all the interior designer projects I’m looking forward to seeing unfold this year, as well as a few other items worth knowing about.

Designer Projects I’m Excited About

One of my favorite interior designers, Leanne Ford, unveiled in Domino magazine a piece of her new Pittsburgh home. I can’t wait to see the rest of the place and the magic she puts into it. To get to know Leanne a little better, check out my Designer Spotlight Q&A with her here.

Designer Justina Blakeney bought a new house that has so many cool architectural features around the whole property. I have no doubt that she will turn it into a vibrant, colorful, Bohemian paradise, and I can’t wait to see. More on her new home is here.

Designer, artist and HGTV host Orlando Soria recently bought a new home near Yosemite that he has dubbed the Londo Lodge. He’s already started renovating it room by room and I love his aesthetic. Check out the progress here.

Whitney Leigh Morris of The Tiny Canal Cottage, one of the dreamiest tiny homes I have ever seen (through social media), is soon to be of the tiny canal cottage no more. She and her family are leaving L.A’s Venice Beach and making their way to a very old French farmhouse in France that they are co-owning with friends. This is going to be such a pleasure to watch, with total jealousy, if I’m being honest! Read all about it here.

And now for another type of farmhouse. Another one of my favorites, Emily Henderson, is leaving California for Portland and they are beginning renovations on an old farm, which includes two houses. Read her story here.

Home Hacks, Tours, and Trends

I absolutely love the combination of vintage and modern in this beautiful house designed by Laura Nelson. The dining room is pictured above.

According to this story in Apartment Therapy in which 80 designers were polled, closed floor plans, warm minimalism, and customized comfort will reign in 2021.

Another story in Apartment Therapy has cool storage ideas, if you’re in need.

This home tour in New York magazine might be my city dwelling dream come true.

Worth Knowing About

If you still don’t think social media influencers are important, check out this Buzzfeed article on the power of people popular on social media and how the insurrection shone a light on the positive and negative effects of their influence.

You know cocktails are important at The Cozy Cottage so I’m very much looking forward to #TheBlackManhattanProject, a month-long hashtag campaign raising awareness around the need for diversity and inclusion within the spirits industry. A fundraising effort also is part of the campaign.

Lastly…

In addition to the designer projects I shared up top, I’m also looking forward to checking off my own list (see more here). I’ve already gotten started and I’ll start sharing more with you over the next few weeks.

And, in case you missed what else has been happening on The 256 Project this month, check out some helpful advice designers, DIYers and professional organizers gave about how they get started on their own projects and how they stay motivated here, and my favorite predicted design and food trends for 2021 here.

Happy Friday and weekend!
