Friday Faves: One Year into the Pandemic, Stop AAPI Hate, an IG Live Interview, and More
Happy Friday and happy first week of Spring! We made it! There is still a long way to go in so many ways as we start to climb out of the pandemic, but with the official start of spring, vaccines rolling out, and warmer weather on the horizon, I’m feeling a sense of excitement and hope that I haven’t felt in at least a year. And a lot has happened this month, so let’s get into it this Friday.
It’s now been a full year into the pandemic and all I can really wonder about is that we survived, literally and figuratively. I don’t think life has been easy for anyone, and there definitely were months when it was not good here. We have retained our health, incomes and sanity and so, for that, I am truly grateful. We will not be returning to pre-pandemic life anytime soon but I am looking forward to seeing a few people more, exploring more and overall just trying to make life better.
Hate against Asian American Pacific Islander communities has risen during the COVID-19 pandemic and, if you weren’t paying attention before, I hope the murders committed in Atlanta recently have awakened you. If you haven’t already, there are many ways to better understand racism against the AAPI community and do your part to help stop the hate. For starters, check out the organization Stop AAPI Hate.
It’s Women’s History Month and Apartment Therapy has a story on six women and what it’s like working in construction, a field dominated by men.
The home (pictured up top) of actors Daveed Diggs and Emmy Raver-Lampman as seen in Architectural Digest is so cool.
Looking for new designers to follow? House Beautiful has named its 2021 Next Wave here. Whitney Jones, Nicholas Obeid, and Eneia White are already on my favorites list!
I’m not sure yet what my next DIY project is but maybe a pocket hole jig is my next tool?
I’m obsessed with SmartLess, a newish podcast with actors and best friends Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes, and Will Arnett and it is just. so. funny.
I’m also obsessed with “Rehab Addict Rescue” on HGTV with Nicole Curtis, star of one of my favorite HGTV shows “Rehab Addict.” It’s from watching Rehab Addict over the years that I knew that horse hair was used in mortar when adhering plaster to lath in old home construction!
I absolutely love this quote that writer Laura Fenton posted to Instagram about small space living and a luxurious life.
I recently joined interior designer Jessica Davis for her Imperfect Cocktails conversation series on IG Live and it was a fun conversation! We talked about where my interest in design comes from and more. You can see the full conversation here. And to learn more about Jessica, check out my Designer Spotlight interview with her here.
I think I want these bookends!
Happy Spring, happy Friday, happy weekend!
