Friday Faves

Friday Faves: Would You Rather…?

This week has been all about loving on my crushes in celebration of International Women’s Day and trying to find zen as we were knocked out by the second major storm in less than a week. But it’s Friday and the main question of this Friday Faves is “would you rather?” What am I referring to? Well, let’s see…

But before we get to the “would you rather,” I want to thank Domino magazine for putting together a stellar list of design-focused content creators to follow on social media who represent a more diverse view of the designers and influencers who get most of the attention on social, online, TV, and in magazines, etc. The story itself explains why this is important and is worth a read. I just went through this list and started following all of them and I hope you will too.
To Dine or Not to Dine
We are a married couple with no kids and we eat almost every meal on our living room couch on the coffee table in front of the TV. So, is a dining room necessary? That’s the question posed by The Kitchn this week and it’s a question Daniel and I have gone back and forth on. We’ve considered having two living rooms rather than a living room and a dining room but I don’t like how that will affect our ability to entertain guests. Would you rather have a dining room or not?

To Renovate or Not to Renovate
Not sure about you, but I consistently have kitchen and bathroom renovations on my mind. Dwell talked to a bathroom expert about the top items and ideas to consider when building or renovating a bathroom. My favorite tip is to not have the toilet in main view.

But maybe a renovation isn’t necessary? Maybe we’ve all been brainwashed by HGTV and Pinterest? So says this article on Curbed that I think I will read periodically every time I am feeling bad about the areas of the house I want to fix. Would you rather renovate or keep your home generally the way it is with some minor updates here and there?

Home Help

Personally, I don’t think exposed brick in a house is a problem – in fact, I hope we get to expose brick in our home, fingers crossed – but The New York Times has a story about what to do with the so-called brick wall “problem.” If you are facing this issue, you might find some of the ideas presented here as helpful. For me, I think I would keep brick exposed, but maybe paint it. Would you rather leave the brick exposed or do something to cover it up?

House Tour
Very few people can pull off the kind of fabulosity featured in this home tour on Apartment Therapy. The combination of bold wallpaper, bold art, colorful decor and furniture and vintage is soooo good, hard to make work well, but this lady makes it all work so well.

Speaking of fabulosity, I recently found out about a New Zealand-based artist and designer whose home is sick, and I mean that in all the best ways. Her name is Evie Kemp and her home is all over her Instagram page. Every view is a “wow” moment.

We have a few bold statement areas in our house, and I’m trying to go bolder, actually, inspired by people like these two women. Would you rather go bold or no?

So what do you think? Dining room or no dining room? Are renovations necessary most of the time? Sound off below. Happy Friday and happy weekending!
