Friday Faves

Friday Faves: DIYers to Follow, Project Updates, and a Few New Items We’ve Recently Purchased

I’ve been on a DIY kick lately from the media console I completed last fall to the stair runner. Since I’m in such a DIY spirit, I’m sharing some of my favorite DIYers to follow, an update on some of the things I’m doing at The Cozy Cottage, as well as a few new items we’ve purchased that are helping create little moments of joy while we stay in quarantine this winter.

2021 Projects

I recently switched out the Roman shades in our bedroom, which I initially DIYed (see more on that here). While I was glad I took a little chance in trying that craft project in the first place, I never loved how they came out, so I recently switched them out for simple, cream-colored Roman shades by Arlo Blinds from Overstock. The end result is pictured above.

I got started on the office organization with a slight upgrade (see here) and have started on our bedroom headboard project. I will share more on that soon!

And we recently had an electrician come out and add an outlet to the garage. Before, we only had one, very old, two-pronged outlet on one side of the garage and I had to use an extension cord snaked through everything in order to use the power tools set up on the other side. Now we have a new outlet on the opposite side, right next to where my power tools are set up. This has already made working in the garage so much easier!

Favorite DIYers

In case you’re looking for some bad ass women to follow, I highly recommend these DIYers:

  • Mandi Gubler of Vintage Revivals is hands-down my top DIYer to follow. Her blog is full of great project tutorials and project inspiration and she has amazing ideas and skills.
  • Ashley Basnight, who goes by Smashing DIY on Instagram, is an engineer by day and a seriously impressive woodworker by night. Check out her bedroom closet, which is insane because she did it entirely herself.
  • Angela Rose caught my attention with her DIY Lite Brite and now I’m in love.
  • Cass Smith is renovating her home with her own hands and her work is creative and fun. Check out how she redid her front steps in brick on her own.
  • Fariha Nasir, who goes by Pennies_for_a_Fortune on Instagram, has infectious excitement for her projects that swing between practical and fun.
  • Danielle McKim of Tuft Interiors is my friend but she just doesn’t know it yet. Look at the awesome big kid room she renovated for her 4-year-old son.

A few new things

We gotta look for joy in even the simplest of things, so here’s what we have purchased recently that’s making us happy:

  • A candle by The Nappy Bohemian, who I interviewed last year for the Designer Spotlight series. I got the Rica Flora scent, and I love how it makes our entire upstairs smell good for hours after we’ve blown out the candle.
  • Chocolates from BedrĂ© Fine Chocolate, a Chickasaw Nation-owned chocolatier that I included in this last holiday season’s gift guide. I’m particularly partial to the corn twists but everything we’ve ordered has been delicious.
  • A sphere-shaped ice tray from CB2 that looks delightful in our whiskey.

And with that, happy Friday! We are soooo close to spring too, so goodbye February and can’t wait to see you, March!
